My HONDA
PACIFIC COAST
"Pacificus Maximus"

I drove to Valparaiso Indiana to get this bike. Good deals on PC 800s are not easy to come by. This one is a beauty. It's a 95 with 16k miles. The bike rides so smooth and handles so gracefully that you forget it weighs 600 pounds. It's 800cc motor purrs along quietly with plenty of low end torque. It's not as fast as my Radian, but it is definitely the better ride.

My letter to the IPCRC describing how I came to get Pacificus M. :

"All the Way to Peru! "

Peru, Indiana that is, just south of Mexico Indiana. Well I finally scored my PC800! Leland you can take me off the want list! But I did have to do some looking to get a good deal. And as everyone said "determination is the key." My Odyssey began a month or so ago, when I met a PC rider in a parking lot. Turned out he lived on my street. I told him how much I have always liked the PC. We exchanged numbers and the next day he called to tell me about a friend who would be willing to sell his mint 89 PC with 12k miles. Well I drove to Akron to check it out. It was indeed very nice and I offered him $3800. He didn't bite, so I decided to look around some more. I had just seen an 89 with 1000 miles on ebay, its high bid was only 3500 (later it sold for $5100). I started looking at cycle trader and every other online classifieds that I could find. I printed out so many sheets that I my ink cartridge ran dry. I had a full inch of paper with numbers and descriptions of PCs all over the country. I started reading these posts and became a member of this Yahoo Group. People were very helpful with info. I learned about the 89 stator/regulator problem, the tire rub, the colors of the various years, the front disc covers, the cut backs in 97-98…

I saw the wide variety of prices on PCs and after talking with others, I decided Kelly's Blue was just too high. I was calling people everyday, I called every used bike dealer in the local yellow pages. I found some really really great deals, but every time I called they were sold. Most of them were out of state anyway and I would have had to pay shipping… I checked out all the PCs I could find in Ohio (3 out of 7 were sold before I could get to them) Of the four I checked out only one came close to the deal I was looking for. Mid Ohio Honda in Mount Vernon Ohio has an 89 in beautiful condition, 20K miles, new tires, fork seals and braked pads. I took it on a 15 mile test ride. It was very nice. I offered $3500 because the stator/regulator had not been replaced. I said I would consider his asking price of $3900 only if that had been done. I told the sales men I had seen an add for a 95 in Indiana , with 16kmiles only asking about the same, and another 95 with only 5k asking for $4995.

I decided I'd check out the Indiana bikes. After much struggle trying to arrange an all day drive (700 miles round trip) I headed off to Peru Indiana where I'd been in contact with a dealer there (I'll leave the name out) regarding a 95 with only 5k miles. He said, "I'm not gonna lie to you it has a few scratches, but overall it's a pretty clean bike. Only 5000 miles, Rifle windshield…it'd be a good deal for somebody. It does have a rebuilt title though." I asked him what that entailed and he said "… well the bike was here when I took over the sales department, but these bikes are easy to total in plastic. We just replace the plastic until its fine again… the frames good etc…" I saw the picture on the internet, It looked good (but it wasn't a close up). I drove to Peru first. L The Bike was a mess! Every piece of plastic that had been replaced must have come from a used bike! Every segment of that bike had a scratch or a crack on it. Ya, it had a rifle windshield (cracked in the glass and base!) I left that dealer and if that was the only bike I had come to see I'd have been really mad, but I had a good feeling about the next one in Valparaiso Indiana, only another 100 miles to go. B&E Honda had a 95 with 16k on consignment. The salesmen, Devlon, had spoken with me on the phone and he was 100 percent accurate in his description of the bike. I rode it and bought it! The best part is the old owner was a great guy! He included AMAZING AMOUNTS of stuff with the bike: Rifle windshield and Honda Windsheild, Corbin Seat/backrests and Honda Seat, Hondaline Bike Cover, Batttery Tender, Shoei Helmet, New plastic face shield, New oil filter, 4 quarts Hondaline oil, Rain Riding Suit, Radar Detector, 2 Headlight Bulbs, Oil filter tool, Shop Manual, trunk bags, All service history… and more miscellaneous small stuff. I rented a U-haul and drove the 300 miles back to Cleveland a happy man. I'd forgotten all about PERU.
