Developing an Individual Career Plan:

  1. Explain the importance of planning to show you understand why you are making an ICP.
  2. Design a career plan that includes self-assessment, research, career alternatives, and high school and college course options.
  3. Create and implement a career plan that includes the required steps to transition from high school to post secondary education/training or the workplace
  4. Explore appropriate employment opportunities and further education.
  5. Continue to revise and update one's career plan

 
Students should be involved in a variety of activities to help them identify their interests and aptitudes. Some of the activities could include:

How will an ICP be used?
Students should update their ICPs annually until they graduate from high school. Each student should maintain a career folder, documenting all career related experiences. By the time a student graduates from high school they should have a document with clearly defined goals, and a plan for achieving them. This document is intended to be a guide as you enter, advance and compete in our ever-changing world of work.
